‘Is this Star Trek enough?’: Space Force ridiculed over new uniforms

.

The new Space Force uniforms are some of the most bizarre ensembles under the sun, according to some Twitter users.

The newest U.S. service branch unveiled its Guardian Service Dress, a prototype uniform for Space Force members, during the Space Force’s annual Air Space Cyber conference on Tuesday. Social media users were unimpressed with the designs, comparing them to uniforms worn in science fiction series such as Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.

Others felt the money spent on the new uniforms, and Space Force in general, could have been put to better use. Rep. Mark Pocan called the uniforms a “big ugly reminder that we chose to create a space force in this country before choosing to invest in things like ending poverty or homelessness,” as other users suggested how to reallocate the funding.

The introduction of Space Force’s new uniforms comes as billionaires Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk have launched their own crews into space.

The billionaires’ missions were also met with criticism. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres blasted private space flights as indicative of global wealth inequality on Tuesday, saying, “Billionaires joyride to space while millions go hungry on Earth.”
