The new Space Force uniforms are some of the most bizarre ensembles under the sun, according to some Twitter users.
The newest U.S. service branch unveiled its Guardian Service Dress, a prototype uniform for Space Force members, during the Space Force’s annual Air Space Cyber conference on Tuesday. Social media users were unimpressed with the designs, comparing them to uniforms worn in science fiction series such as Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.
Is this Star Trek enough for everyone?

The Space Force will sure save a lot of money by using these repurposed Colonial Fleet uniforms. https://t.co/Ng0ZJR8lY1

Sorry. My take is this is a laughable Space Force uniform. Just add a plastic bubble helmet and it would be perfect.

While the new Space Force uniforms are fine they’ll never replace Cosmos Commanders Belinda-Sue Galaxy and Natalia VonStarquest pic.twitter.com/qZqKGD2bek

WHY THE SPACE RACE SHOULD INSPIRE CLIMATE-MINDED YOUNG PEOPLE
Others felt the money spent on the new uniforms, and Space Force in general, could have been put to better use. Rep. Mark Pocan called the uniforms a “big ugly reminder that we chose to create a space force in this country before choosing to invest in things like ending poverty or homelessness,” as other users suggested how to reallocate the funding.

I still can’t believe this is a thing.
Things we find money to pay for:
✅ $2T in tax cuts for billionaires
✅ $210 billion trade war
✅ Whatever Space Force costsThings We Refuse to Pay for:
❌ Food and housing assistance
❌ Medicare for All
❌ Tuition-free college https://t.co/rvKJIF3vlO— Senator Megan Hunt 😷 (@NebraskaMegan) September 21, 2021
Hey what if we took all those resources currently allocated to the Space Force and devoted them to, like, keeping half the country from catching on fire for four months out of every year https://t.co/ZSS5zmRL4x

The introduction of Space Force’s new uniforms comes as billionaires Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk have launched their own crews into space.
The billionaires’ missions were also met with criticism. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres blasted private space flights as indicative of global wealth inequality on Tuesday, saying, “Billionaires joyride to space while millions go hungry on Earth.”
