From Miley Cyrus to Lil Nas X, Whose Cover of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ Is Your Favorite? Vote!

Dolly Parton‘s 1973 Hot Country Songs No. 1 hit “Jolene” has stood the test of time decades after its release, in part thanks to a host of covers. But whose new version of “Jolene” is your favorite?

Her goddaughter Miley Cyrus delivered a memorable stripped-down version of it during the Happy Hippie Presents: Backyard Sessions in 2012. The White Stripes and Pentatonix released their covers as singles, with the garage rock band’s 2004 “Jolene (Live Under Blackpool Lights)” version breaking into the top 20 of the U.K. Singles chart. The a cappella group’s 2016 version, which featured Parton herself, not only broke into the top 20 of Hot Country Songs, which the original song topped 43 years prior, but also won a Grammy for best country duo/group performance. The original “Jolene” was nominated for best country vocal performance, female in 1974, while a live recording was nominated the following year. The original was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.

Singer-songwriter Mindy Smith‘s 2003 cover of “Jolene” for the tribute album Just Because I’m a Woman led to her discovery and first record label deal with Vanguard Records. Parton even called it her favorite version of the song.
