Wade Allison Kevin Hayes Flyers injury

The Philadelphia Flyers announced a few significant injuries on Tuesday. Wade Allison, Kevin Hayes, and Samuel Morin are all expected to miss time with new injuries. The injury bug is already biting the Flyers. Their depth additions were going to be important anyway, but now the spotlight is on them with a few holes to fill in the lineup.

Flyers injury updates

Wade Allison out ‘indefinitely’

Allison suffered a right ankle sprain in Sunday’s Rookie Game and will be out indefinitely.

The 23-year-old winger burst onto the scene with seven points (four goals, three assists) in 14 games last season. He was penciled into the lineup for the coming season, which creates a hole in the bottom six.

There is no exact timeline for Allison’s return yet, but Alain Vigneault said that he’ll be out “for a while.”

Kevin Hayes out six to eight weeks

Kevin Hayes underwent sports hernia surgery early in the offseason and tweaked something else this week. Vigneault said that Hayes felt something in his groin while skating on Monday and underwent surgery Tuesday morning.

Hayes is expected to miss six to eight weeks. If he returns in six weeks, he’ll have missed four regular-season games. The Flyers then play three games in four nights and three games the following week.

The Flyers were counting on Hayes to bounce back as the second-line center. His absence opens up the door for someone like Morgan Frost.

Samuel Morin out six to eight weeks

There was a report over the weekend that Samuel Morin suffered another significant knee injury.

However, that was disputed by Morin himself via Riley Cote.

Now, we have some clarity.

Morin underwent another surgery on his right knee to have loose bodies removed on September 10th. He is out six to eight weeks.

Morin wasn’t expected to be in the Flyers’ regular defensive rotation, but he’s a solid seventh defenseman. That opens the door for perhaps a prospect like Cam York or Egor Zamula, or more likely a veteran option to give the prospects regular playing time in the AHL.

Alain Vigneault met with the media on Tuesday, less than 48 hours before the start of Flyers Training Camp. Allison, Hayes, and Morin will be missing on the ice, but the Flyers have plenty of new faces ready to get going.
