VIDEO: NJ race car driver captures frightening crash off speedway

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A New Jersey race car driver captured a harrowing crash off a New Hampshire track that sent his car barreling into the woods Saturday.

Joey Bailey, 24, said that his car's gas pedal got stuck and he was unable to stop his midget race car at the Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire.

"I couldn't really stop it and I just hit the brakes at that point tried to turn left as much as I could," Bailey said. "From that point on, I pretty much had to hang on for the ride."

NBC 4 reports the crash was captured on the Monroe native's helmet camera as he got into 5th place during his American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association race — which travels around the Northeast competing in races.

Bailey described the crash on Instagram, writing it was "one of the most helpless feeling[s] to have when all you can do is lock the brakes up and hang on."

NBC 4 reports he suffered some back pain and felt sore, but is expected to come back "stronger than ever."

"Super thankful for all the safety equipment that did its job," he added on Instagram.
