MAGNA — A youth football team was forced to end practice early on Monday and sent everyone home for their safety after a man allegedly threatened to shoot the coach, according to Unified police.
Joshua Scott Howard, 38, of Sunset, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of making a threat of terrorism.
Monday afternoon, about two dozen parents, coaches and players were attending a youth football practice at Magna Copper Park, 8975 W. 2600 South, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray. During the practice, Howard was also in the park with a woman and the two got into an argument, Gray said.
"The argument between the female and the suspect got to the point where the football coach intervened and told the suspect to leave the area," according to a police booking affidavit.
That lead to a confrontation between Howard and the coach.
"The suspect threatened that he was going to get his gun, come back and shoot the coach and the kids. Because of the threat the coach suspended practice and sent the students home," the affidavit states.
Police were called and Howard, who was still in the area when officers arrived, was arrested.
