Heavy smoke and flames were reported on the roof of the Caesar's Superdome in New Orleans on Tuesday. NOLA Ready confirmed the fire, urging residents to avoid the area. According to EMS spokesman Jonathan Fourcade, one worker had minor injuries from the fire. The person suffered burns to their face and arms and were taken to UMC for treatment.Fire officials confirmed a crew was pressure washing the roof when the fire broke out. They are investigating the extent of the damage and official cause.Due to the fire being on the roof, fire officials said roughly a dozen firefighters had to climb the side of the Dome to access the fire.Employees at the Dome said they were evacuated around 12:40 p.m. as a precaution. According to the employees, roughly 70 people were working inside at the time of the fire and none of the employees smelled smoke. An all clear was given at 1:10 p.m. and employees were allowed back inside, according to the Dome employees on scene. ASM Global issued the following statement regarding the fire:"This afternoon a fire occurred on the exterior of the Caesars Superdome in the gutter tub of the roof. NOFD and venue first responders were dispatched immediately and extinguished the fire. Upon further investigation it appears that a pressure washer being used to clean the roof caught fire. Damage is still being assessed." An NFL source told WDSU that while damage assessment is ongoing, the assumption is that the building will be structurally fine and the next Saints home game, scheduled for Oct. 3 against the Giants, will be played at the Superdome as planned.
