VACCINE REQUIRED IN TOWN HALL

All non-union town of Provincetown employees will be required to be vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus as of Sept. 20, or show proof weekly of a negative test result, Town Manager Alex Morse announced at the Sept. 13 Select Board meeting. Negotiations are to be undertaken to bring about the same mandate with the two unions working in Town Hall as well, Morse said. The two unions cover some police department and public works department employees. The municipal mandate, implemented to protect public safety, is one of the first in Massachusetts, Morse said. The number of positive COVID cases in the last two weeks in Provincetown was six, based on state data from Sept. 16.

Two common dolphins were released Friday at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown by International Fund for Animal Welfare staff members and volunteers. Earlier in the day, a stranding in shallow water of four common dolphins occurred off Brewster. When rescuers arrived, two of the animals had died, but the two that were alive were driven north and released into the deeper waters. "We're about on average, maybe slightly higher than the previous ten years," said IFAW marine mammal rescuer Kristy Volker of the common dolphin rescues so far for 2021.

KATHLEEN TURNER LENDS HAND

A one-night benefit reading of "Family Game Night" by actor Kathleen Turner will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Provincetown Town Hall at 260 Commercial St. The fundraiser will benefit the Provincetown Theater Foundation, according to the press release. Turner will read "this new dark ensemble comedy from local playwright Peter Kennedy about a family board game night that goes off the rails. What starts out as a mildly irritating board game featuring glitter and Grim Reaper hand puppets suddenly turns darker as three generations of the Morton family struggle with articulating wildly different views about their individual end of life (and afterlife) choices. In poignant flash forwards, we begin to see the endgame of how those choices will eventually play out."
