New Pokemon Card Game to Replace Pokemon Trading Card Game Online

The Pokemon Company has decided to retire its previous card game and replace it with a new updated version - Pokemon Trading Card Game Live.

All fans of Pokemon TCG Online must have felt a little bit affected when they've heard about the game being shutdown. Nevertheless, "something ends, something begins" as they say, and Pokemon Trading Game Card Live , a new card game from the Pokemon Company, will jump into its place. The new game will be available on PC, Mac and mobile devices.

Pokemon TCG Live will receive many improvements over its predecessor, including a ranking ladder, 3D avatars and season passes. Some elements will be removed, for example chat and trading cards. Pokemon TCG Online will disappear from mobile digital distribution platforms (Google Play, App Store), as well as from PCs and Macs at the launch of TCG Live.

The new Pokemon card game will offer TCG Online players the option to transfer progress and card collections. According to the official website:

"Both Pokémon TCG Online and Pokémon TCG Live use the same Pokémon Trainer Club account to log in. When you first log into TCG Live all data from your TCG Online associated with that Pokémon Trainer Club account will be automatically transferred to the new title. During the testing period on mobile devices and PC/Mac, players who transfer their data will be unable to log into Pokémon TCG Online. We will provide more details on this process in the future."

The developers also provided a detailed list of content that will transfer between the two titles:

"Cards: Pokémon TCG cards from the Sword & Shield series, as well as selected expansions of the Sun & Moon series (from Sun & Moon - Lost Thunder to Sun & Moon - Cosmic Eclipse), will be transferable and playable in Pokémon TCG Live at launch. Cards from other expansions in the Sun & Moon series (from Sun & Moon to Dragon Majesty), as well as from the XY and Black & White series will be transferable at launch, but are only expected to be playable in future updates for Pokémon TCG Live. Players will be able to transfer up to four copies of a unique Pokémon TCG card, one copy of ACE SPEC or Prism Star, one copy of each section of the Pokémon V-UNION card and 59 copies of the basic Energy card. Additional copies beyond these limits will not be carried over.

Accessories: multiple coins, card sleeves, and deck boxes will be transferable, with each item receiving a limit of one copy. Additional copies of coins, card sleeves and deck boxes will not be transferred."

Apart from the aforementioned, the transfer does not apply to aspects such as in-game currency, friends list or unopened products and packs (although for the latter players will be compensated with Crystals that can be spent in the new store).

More details on the changes coming with Pokemon Trading Card Game Live are available here.
