Ashley HomeStore in Greece has closed after the parent company, The Wellsville Group, said it was unable extend the lease for the furniture retailer.

Opened in 2006 just off West Ridge Road along Fetzner Road, the Greece location was one of nine Ashley HomeStores in Western and Central New York owned by The Wellsville Group. The group also owns the Ashley store at 650 Hylan Drive in Henrietta.

The group, headquartered in the Cattaraugus County hamlet of Weston Mills, said it intends to find a new location in the Rochester area for a second store. Another location in Greece is preferred, a company spokesperson said, adding that the firm is always doing market research to determine where there is growing demand for its product.

“The greater Rochester area has been a wonderful community for The Wellsville Group,” managing partner Timothy Quinn said in a news release. “Due to circumstances outside of our company’s control — and despite a strong desire to remain in our current Greece location — our building lease is not up for renewal at this time.

“It is our intention to remain a stylish, affordable home resource in Rochester for years to come, focusing immediate efforts on our Henrietta location while we begin the process of finding another new location.”

Employees at the Greece store will transfer to Henrietta, the company said.

The Wellsville Group owns 16 Ashley HomeStores and four Ashley outlets across New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as Carpet Town Carpet One near its headquarters.
