A Sandwich woman was seriously injured on Thursday, September 16, in a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 6A and Old County Road.
Police were called to the scene of the crash around 9:20 AM by the East Sandwich Post Office.
During the investigation, police learned the crash occurred when Juliet Cummings, 26, of East Sandwich was traveling east on Route 6A toward Hyannis when Diane Martin, 70, of East Sandwich attempted to turn west on Route 6A from Old County Road, pulling out directly in front of Ms. Cummings.
Police said Ms. Cummings struck the left side of Ms. Martin’s vehicle, causing heavy front-end damage to her own vehicle, and heavy left-side damage to Ms. Martin’s.
Police arrived first at the scene and found Ms. Cummings lying in the roadway. Paramedics arrived moments later and based on the woman’s leg injuries, requested a medical helicopter. However, the helicopter was not available.
Ms. Cummings was transported by the Sandwich Fire Department to South Shore Hospital in Plymouth. Ms. Martin was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Police found Ms. Martin at fault for the crash and have cited her with failing to yield at an intersection.
