Mobvoi may have silently upgraded the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 to a different Snapdragon Wear chipset. There is no official confirmation from Mobvoi, but all its marketing materials reflect the change.

Mobvoi launched the TicWatch Pro 3 as the first Snapdragon Wear 4100-powered smartwatch, which it followed nine months later with the similarly-equipped TicWatch E3. However, now the company is claiming that both smartwatches utilise the Wear 4100+. Qualcomm describes the differences between the two variants as:

Snapdragon Wear 4100 platforms come in two variants:

The Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform which includes the main SOC (SDM429w or SDA429w) and the AON Co-Processor (QCC1110), along with the companion chips including PMIC, RF for Modem/GPS and WiFi/BT, and RFFE.

The Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform which comprises of the main SOC along with the companion chips.

This is not a mistake on Mobvoi's part, either. The company has updated its website, Amazon listings and marketing materials; all references to the Snapdragon Wear 4100 have been removed. In their place are Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which Mobvoi describes as a 'Dual System Platform'. We cannot find any mention of a 'Dual System Platform' on Qualcomm's product page, though.

According to the Web Archive, Mobvoi stated that the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 up to at least August. A tweet from the Mobvoi Official Twitter account confirms this, too. We have reached out to Mobvoi for comment and will update this article if the company response. In the meantime, we have purchased a retail TicWatch E3 to determine what, if any, changes Mobvoi has made. Hopefully, Mobvoi is not falsely advertising both smartwatches.
