Adam Devine may not have appeared in the third Pitch Perfect movie, but his character’s journey is (apparently) far from over.
The actor is set to reprise the role of Bumper Allen for a Pitch Perfect spinoff series, TVLine has learned. The new project picks up several years after we last saw Bumper in 2015’s Pitch Perfect 2; he’s now attempting to restart his music career in Germany, where one of his songs has inexplicably become a hit.
Elizabeth Banks, who appeared in and produced the Pitch Perfect trilogy, as well as directed the second movie, will executive-produce the Bumper-centric series from Universal Television. Additional EPs include Max Handelman for Brownstone Productions, Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer for Gold Circle Films, and Devine and Megan Amram.
“Our upcoming Pitch Perfect series is another example of the unmatched synergy NBCUniversal is able to expand upon with our wide-ranging library of IP,” Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement. “When we saw the opportunity to create a series for Pitch Perfect with Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and Paul Brooks plus more earworm classics for super fans to enjoy, we jumped at it. And to top it off, we are so fortunate that Adam Devine is headlining the series and bringing fans the quirky, laugh-out-loud sensibility they loved in the film franchise.”
“We’re so happy to have the opportunity to bring the beloved Universal Pictures franchise Pitch Perfect to the small screen and to explore the hilarious and distinct characters in this (musical-filled) world,” added Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television. “We’re lucky to partner with the talented Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and Paul Brooks, who produced the iconic films; the exceptionally funny and memorable Adam Devine; and Megan Amram, whose clever adaptation of Pitch Perfect is sure to have audiences laughing out loud and tapping their feet.”

Who wanted a show about bumper?
Who asked for that? 😂 No shade to Devine but that’s the most uninteresting character of the whole franchise. Even a series about the Bardens wouldn’t seem that appealing. The 3rd movie was a good note to leave that world. No need for anything else
Yeah, I don’t think they know why we liked the movies. I mean, ANY of the female characters would have been a better choice.
Pitch Perfect is genuinely one of my favorite movies.
But this is hell. I’m in hell.
Maybe I’m wrong- but I don’t think anyone watched the movies for Bumper of all characters. Also, for how *girl power-y* the movies were… this is how they decide to spin it off??
Hopefully we’ll get skinny Amy in the new series.
Even though I think they should of ended this franchise a long time ago (they should of only made the one movie) and he is definitely not the reason why I tuned in to the movies, I do, however, think that Adam Devine is a funny actor and Bumper is a funny character. So as much as I hate to admit this, I’ll probably check it out.
I haven’t even seen the third movie because I outright refused due to all the queerbaiting. So long as Bechloe is not a thing, I am boycotting. And, as has been said, people don’t like Bumper. And yet, here’s my prediction, they’ll end up hooking him up with Aubrey even though she’s adamently anti Treble and they think it’s funny. Seriously, unless this begins with Beca and Chloe getting married, I’m gonna pass.
It isn’t queerbaiting when 1 character misreads the situation or unintentionally does it.
Great idea, lets take a fun female led franchise and spin-off a really uninteresting male character.
.
Get Kelley Jakle and Shelley Regner and give us a show about how Jessica and Ashley were secretly pulling the strings behind everything all along, despite Ashley not knowing which one of them was Jessica and which one was Ashley. 😋
THIS I would 100% watch if I had reason to end my boycott
Ditto!
As a male viewer even I’m entirely disinterested in a bumper spinoff. As a late comer to the series I actually liked Devine better when modern family was my main exposure and before rebel said one of the male cast really hurt her — with Devine being the most likely culprit in my mind given their proximity and his inclination towards those sorts of characters.
Um, what? Who’d be interested in that?!? I like the actor, but I’d think Bumper would be the LAST character to follow. How about one of the actual ladies taking over as the coach of a national level collegiate acapella group?
Ok worst idea ever for sooo many reasons and the 1st for me is Perfect Pitch and the sequels were female empowering and you choose the idiot male to run a spin off…REALLY!
You could not hire one or more of any of the female stars who were in the show that got us singing again!
The character you choose is off putting and a great side character ( not a rip on the actor) that it was thought as the best way to continue a much loved and wanted spin off.
Typical – and sad!
Disney: “What if we did a series starring the white guy from Aladdin who was in the movie for 2 minutes?”
Fans: “I can’t imagine a studio having a worse dea. for a spin-off”s
Universal: “Hold my beer.”
*idea. Time for a new keyboard :(
I would rather have Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist back. While Bumper was great comic relief when paired with Fat Amy, we all know that most of the lead actors/actresses had moved on to bigger roles. Plus Pitch Perfect was really all about the Bellas!
True that Pitch Perfect was about the Bellas, but.. it DID kick start Benji Platt’s incredible career.
Who decides to take a movie about a bunch of women and make a show about the 3rd or 4th most important male character? People who think human beings talk like this-
.
“Our upcoming Pitch Perfect series is another example of the unmatched synergy NBCUniversal is able to expand upon with our wide-ranging library of IP,”
So, Bumper is the David Hasselhoff of A Capella?
Heh, now that Norm MacDonald is no long with us, we all should be reminding people that Germans love David Hasselhoff, nice to see you doing your part
