Be Forever Young

Be Forever Young met at Parkview Christian Church on Monday, Sept. 13. Eighteen members and one guest attended. President Elayne Gordon introduced herself as a child of God and a follower of Jesus Christ, who had traded his life for hers. Gordon welcomed members back and recognized guest Helen Adams, and thanked everyone for attending.

Gordon asked the group to raise prayer needs and share blessings members had experienced and then went to God in prayer concerning the same.

“Happy Birthday” was sung by the Club to Sharon Rentel, Gerry Sumners, and Rodney Brown for their October birthdays.

Gordon read the meeting minutes. The minutes were accepted as written. The Treasurer was absent.

The devotion was given by Gordon and was from a book called “God is Like a Geyser,” by Chris Stanley, it told of how God, like Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park, is faithful to care for his children.

As a point of Old Business, Be Forever Young still needs a secretary to write minutes and submit a copy to the Sedalia Democrat. In the second point of New Business, the group discussed the Christmas Banquet and possible caterers. Gordon asked several in the Club to contact possible choices and bring menus and prices for the October meeting.

In New Business, the Club will attend “Menopause the Musical” at The New Theatre on Nov. 3.  Dave Stockton will drive the Church bus that will leave before 9:30 a.m. Also in New Business the Club voted to have Pettis County First give a presentation in October about the proposed landfill.

The Club thanked hostesses Rhonda Zink and Gordon for setting up the potluck buffet and cleaning up after the club’s luncheon.

Gordon then handed the meeting over to Rodney Brown who entertained the Club with silly songs. Brown had been collecting silly songs for years. Most of the songs were well-known tunes with a twist on the lyrics. The first song Brown sang was a re-writing of the popular tune “My Favorite Things.” The rewrite was done by its most well-known singer, Julie Andrews, and mentioned heating pads and warm robes as favorite things and thinning hair and creaking bones as things about which not to feel so bad. The next song Brown sang was an audience participation tune written by Jake Hess. In it, the author compared the familiar Wore Out feeling with the perfection and happiness in heaven. The Club joined Brown in singing the chorus.  Several other songs were included in the presentation, but the favorite seemed to be “Pharaoh, Pharaoh” a long-time favorite at Parkview Christian Church about Hebrews release from Egypt. This song included some actions and dance moves. The Club enjoyed Brown’s Silly Songs immensely as shown by their laughter and applause.

Gordon reminded the club that the next meeting would be hosted Oct. 11. The devotion will be given by Dixie Rowan. The hostesses for the next meeting will be Ruth Stratman and Gerry Sumners. An informational powerpoint presentation will be provided by Pettis County First.

Brown led in the “Lord’s Prayer,” and the group enjoyed a potluck luncheon. The meeting was adjourned.
