If you expected Gibbs’s disappearance to take a lot of the season, you’d be mistaken. The team found him in the NCIS Season 19 premiere.

With Mark Harmon stepping away from the bulk of NCIS Season 19, we did wonder how the show would handle it. Would we see the team have to search all season for him? It looked like that at first, especially when we found Gibbs locked up in a barn.

In the Season 18 finale, Gibbs survived the explosion on the boat. It turns out that he didn’t know about the bomb, and he wasn’t supposed to survive. He was injured with a piece of wood in his side, but he was patched up by a former veterinarian.

It was the former vet and his wife who decided to lock him up in their shed. With the explosion, they were worried that he was trouble. Why would people want him dead? It was all thanks to a fake cop showing up that the couple realized Gibbs was telling the truth, let him call Marnie, and gave him clothes, a rifle, and a motorbike to get out of dodge for the time being.

Marcie had turned to Gibbs’s team for help. Once there, Gibbs called her and talked to McGee, telling him to stay away. Of course, there was no way that McGee and the team would do that.

Vance wouldn’t let McGee and Torres go alone, so they asked for Jessica Knight to join their team. Together, they ended up finding Gibbs and saved him from the bunch of local drug dealers (one of them was the fake cop).

The trouble isn’t over, though. Gibbs and Marcie still have the serial killer watching them. They’re still in danger, and now the team is getting involved. However, Gibbs doesn’t want the team’s help on this.

The team doesn’t want to do it without Gibbs, either. McGee made it clear that Rule 91 goes against Rule 1, and Gibbs needs to be a team player again. They need to work together if they’re going to catch this serial killer, and Gibbs gets back into the game. However, he’s still suspended.
