West Virginia health officials reported 1,337 new positive COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and 17 additional deaths.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources also reported active cases at 17,435. The daily positive test rate was 10.99%, while the cumulative positive test rate was 5.70%, both increasing from Monday.
The latest deaths raise the COVID death total in the state to 3,441. The most recent reported deaths were:

* an 87-year-old woman from Kanawha County
* an 84-year-old woman from Hancock County
* a 70-year-old woman from Logan County
* a 52-year-old woman from Logan County
* a 61-year-old woman from Roane County
* an 80-year-old woman from Marion County
* a 71-year-old man from Marion County
* an 86-year-old woman from Marion County
* a 93-year-old woman from Marion County
* a 72-year-old man from Brooke County
* a 73-year-old woman from Monroe County
* a 62-year-old woman from Raleigh County
* an 88-year-old woman from Raleigh County
* a 73-year old-man from Raleigh County
* a 59-year-old woman from Harrison County
* an 84-year-old man from Wood County
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 was 955 as of Monday, a decrease of six from Sunday. There were 292 COVID patients in intensive care and 164 people on ventilators, both of which increased from Sunday.
On the county alert map, 38 counties were in red, including Kanawha, Putnam and Cabell. Thirteen counties were in orange, three in gold and one in green. No counties were listed in yellow. The map is based on Monday’s data.
Delta variant cases were at 1,876.
