Wayward GOP needs to reflect on the decency the late George Voinovich lived every day

Kudos to Peter Voinovich for his Sept. 19 guest column, “The Ohio GOP has gone awry by embracing the wrong standard-bearer,” on the state of the Republican Party and the candidates now running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Rob Portman.

As one of a dozen or so people who served every minute of all eight years in the Governor’s Office under Peter’s late father, my guess is George Voinovich would be most proud of what his son has written.

The Republican Party truly does seem to have lost its way. My hope is that it can begin to identify a fresh set of candidates for all offices who embody the character, intellect, and compassion that the late Gov. Voinovich brought to the office every day -- along with his black lunch pail!
