Classic and classy American dining on Ithaca’s east side at the Antlers

We’re back on the east side of Ithaca this week visiting the Antlers! On Route 366 since 1982, the Antlers serves up classic and classy American fare. They’re known for prime rib night and surf & turf, and they’ve recently added Sunday brunch.

There’s lots of fish and seafood at the Antlers, starting with two of our favorite appetizers — the lobster bisque, a rich classic served beautifully with a ripple of cream, and the smoked trout, with a horseradish sauce. The glazed salmon entree features local honey and Kentucky bourbon in the glaze.

Prime rib night is Wednesday, and that $20 weekly special is a juicy slab of beautifully cooked beef served with garlic mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day. (A larger cut is available, too.) Thursday is $9 half-pound burger night, served with a side, and Friday offers a new fryless fish fry special. Surf and turf is available Saturdays, pairing a filet mignon and lobster tail. We’ve found the prime rib and the filet and lobster all perfectly cooked on each visit.

One of our longtime favorites at the Antlers is the cherry glazed roast duckling, served partially deboned over a savory stuffing. We first had it years ago, and it hasn’t disappointed on recent visits.

A small range of vegetarian options includes smoked gouda mac & cheese or the Santa Barbara entrée salad. The bar offers reasonably priced cocktails and a simple wine list. Plan on spending 15 to 50 bucks per person on your meal, and take advantage of the frequent discount offers so you can spring for dessert and leave a generous tip.

With its rich green and dark wood interior, accented with polished brass rails, the Antlers offers a comfortable and attractive atmosphere reminiscent of a good English countryside inn. This year they’ve been doing lots of takeout, and there’s a large tent on the patio to extend the outdoor dining season.

Find the Antlers at 1159 Dryden Road, on Route 366 between Cornell and Route 13, or at antlersrestaurant.com. Call them at 607-273-9725 and tell them you heard about them here.
