“The Tragedy of Macbeth” launching on Apple TV+ on January 14

Apple TV+ has now shared the first trailer for “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, revealing a dark-themed tone. The trailer also features a witch’s voice uttering the famous line, “by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.”

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” has been filmed entirely on sound stages and features no on-location footage whatsoever. Apple TV+ describes the project as “a bold and fierce adaptation” of the classic, “a tale of murder, madness, ambition and wrathful cunning.”

This black-and-white adaptation of the classic tragedy of the same name by William Shakespeare was written and is being directed by Joel Coen. The premise of the film is simple: A Scottish Lord gets convinced by three witches to become the King of Scotland.

The film stars Denzel Washington, who plays Lord Macbeth, and Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth. Other cast members include Corey Hawkins, Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Kathryn Hunter, Harry Melling and Brendan Gleeson.

Apple has clarified earlier that “The Tragedy of Macbeth” will close out the 65th BFI London Film Festival. To create this drama, Apple has collaborated with the production studio A24.

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” will make its theatrical debut on Christmas Day (Saturday, December 25) before premiering on the Apple TV+ platform on Friday, January 14, 2022.
