Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres remain at odds over how exactly the team's captain should medically address his injury. While nothing on that front has been settled, Eichel is rumored to be going to Buffalo for a pre-training camp physical, according to The Associated Press (h/t John Wawrow of The Hockey News).

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because discussions between Eichel and the Sabres have been private. The Sabres are conducting their player physicals on Wednesday, a day before opening training camp.

Eichel and Buffalo's management have been in a quandary with regards to the proper treatment for the player's herniated disk throughout the offseason. Eichel adamantly wants to push through with a replacement surgery to repair the injury. The Sabres, on the other hand, are not in favor of that procedure, noting the lack of past cases in which a player underwent the same operation.

Moreover, the trade rumors should continue to persist, though, it has long been established that it would not be an easy task for the Sabres to move Eichel given his current condition and the size of his contract. Eichel has a $10 million AAV on his deal that won't expire until the conclusion of the 2025-26 NHL season.
