PITTSBURGH — A section of Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh is in for a major overhaul to make it safer and the city wants public input.

This is the stretch of Liberty Avenue slated for improvement, through the Strip District corridor, from downtown Pittsburgh at 11th Street to Herron Avenue.

The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure is proposing changes to travel lanes, intersections, traffic operations and transit stops.

The goal is to improve safety for people walking, biking, driving and taking public transit.

The 6.2 million project is still in the beginning stages of design, and Pittsburghers said the improvements are needed.

“A bigger sidewalk, I feel like it’s very not conducive to pedestrians at all. I avoid walking him down that street for that exact reason,” said Pittsburgh resident Corey Bosket.

“There’s so much heavy traffic down that way. People that drive there, how they drive is kind of nuts at times,” said Pittsburgh resident Becky Phillips.

The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure will present the proposed design Tuesday night tonight during a virtual meeting. For more information, visit the department’s website.
