Who Stars in 'The Resident' Season 5?

The majority of the main cast have returned for the fifth season of The Resident.

This means Gilmore Girls star Matt Czuchry is back as Conrad Hawkins, the chief resident at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital.

90210's Manish Dayal also returns as Devon Pravesh alongside Thirteen Days star Bruce Greenwood as Randolph Bell, the former CEO of Chastain Park.

Fans will also see Reed Between the Lines star Malcolm-Jamal Warner return as AJ, the cardiothoracic surgeon, and Frasier's Jane Leeves as Kitt Voss, the new CEO after Chastain became a public hospital in Season 4.

The Enemy Within's Morris Chestnut is also back as neurosurgeon Barrett Cain and Gotham's Jessica Lucas returns as Billie Sutton, a neurosurgery resident.

Joining the cast of Season 5 is Miles Fowler as Trevor Sutton, the estranged son of Billie Sutton, and Anuja Joshi has been upped to season regular, continuing in her role as Leela Devi, a surgical intern.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Emily VanCamp, who has played Nicolette 'Nic' Nevin for the past four seasons, has stepped down as a series regular. According to Deadline, her story will wrap up early in Season 5.

Sadly, Black Panther's Shaunette Renee Wilson will not be reprising Mina in the new series after her character's story came to an end in Season 4.

Taking to Instagram to address her exit, Wilson wrote: "After deeply thoughtful reflection, I approached the producers some time ago asking to leave the show and they agreed— and gave my character a wonderful sendoff. I am appreciative of them for allowing me to embody as beautiful of a soul as Dr. Mina Okafor. I would also like to thank the studio, network, cast, crew, and, most of all, the wonderfully dedicated fans of The Resident for their support over the last four seasons."

What Will Happen in 'The Resident' Season 5?

It was a happy ending for all at the end of Season 4 of The Resident.

AJ (played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner) and Dr. Cain (Morris Chestnut) put their differences behind them after Cain performed life-saving surgery on AJ's mother.

Jake and Gregg adopted Sammie, and Nic (Emily VanCamp) gave birth to her and Conrad's (Matt Czuchry) first child, a daughter named Georgina Grace Hawkins.

Speaking to TV Line, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff revealed the Big Pharma storyline introduced in the finale will be explored in the new series and could be the show's new villain.

He said: "The ramifications of that [Big Pharma plot] will be evident in the season, and we will do—because we have 23 episodes, it's going to be a ginormous season—we will do one of those underside-of-the-medical-industrial-complex arcs in this season.

"I won't be specific as to whether it'll tie into the Big Pharma story or something else, but yes, we will return again to a villain in our next season."
