ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man wanted on a long list of outstanding warrants for an incident in 2020 has now been charged.

26-year-old Daniel M. Jefferson was arrested by officers with the Kannapolis Police Department just after midnight. He was arrested at his home in the 500 block of Rosemont Avenue in Kannapolis.

Jefferson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, larceny, felony cruelty to animals, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, no operator license, failure to stop at stop sign, reckless driving to endanger, and failure to heed light or siren.

The original incident began on June 19, 2020, when officers responded to a residence on Rosemont Avenue for a domestic assault in progress. When officers arrived, Jefferson had already left the scene.

Police say there was a verbal altercation that escalated, and Jefferson assaulted his stepfather with brass knuckles. Officers located Jefferson that night but he fled in a vehicle. Officers lost sight of the vehicle after it entered Landis.

During the initial altercation, Jefferson also struck a dog with a weapon, which led to the charges of felony cruelty to animals.

Numerous attempts were made to locate Jefferson, but it was later discovered that he had fled to California. Jefferson was arrested in July 2020 in Orange County on charges in California.

Kannapolis Police received information last night that Jefferson was back on Rosemont Avenue. Officers responded and arrested him without incident.

A magistrate set Jefferson’s bond at $20,000. Jefferson will appear in court on Wednesday.
