One could understand if a team in the playoff hunt would be happy to see the Baltimore Orioles on their schedule. Even if they are playing for a future several years down the line, the current roster has been disastrous.

But that may not actually be the case. The Orioles have played their part as a spoiler perfectly this month, taking three games from the Yankees. They have also earned a victory from the Phillies and Blue Jays, part of a 7-12 month.

The Orioles may not be done either. They still have two more games against the Phillies this month, as well as three game sets against the Red Sox and Blue Jays. With each of those teams desperately fighting for a playoff berth, they cannot afford to lose to the worst team in the game.

However, the Orioles are clearly enjoying their role. They have battered on the Yankees, those three loses could make the difference in their postseason hopes. As the Phillies have had their own struggles of late, and the Red Sox have not exactly been the powerhouse they were, the Orioles could do the same.

it is strange to imagine that a playoff berth could come down to how well a team plays against Baltimore. These are the exact situations that teams play for, to win enough games where their hopes of going to the playoffs rest on facing an inferior opponent.

But the Orioles are not going to just lay down and take that beating. Instead, they have taken this challenge and risen to the occasion, making the lives of these contenders miserable. And they have plenty of opportunities to continue to do so this year.
