Syracuse, N.Y. -- Several Section III football players have started their varsity careers this fall by turning in some early difference-making performances.

Here’s a rundown of several of those players who are looking right at home on their new level:

Sophomore Nishawn Everson RB/LB, Henninger: He picked up 57 yards in his first game, Sept. 9 against Liverpool. “Nishawn has been a pleasant surprise as a first-year varsity starter. Hard worker and looking forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season,” said Henninger coach Kevin Ryan.

Sophomore Bruce Wingate, RB, DL, Liverpool: Flexed his muscle with five sacks and 14 tackles through first three games.

Junior Jonathan Corl, TE, DE, Bishop Grimes: In his first football game ever, Sept. 10 vs. Sauquoit Valley, he introduced himself with two sacks and one touchdown catch.

Eighth-grader Elijah Welch, QB, Westhill: No way-too-young jitters here. Welch passed for 298 yards in his first three games.

Junior Logan Darling, lineman, Homer: Registered a sack and three tackles in his debut vs. Chittenango on Sept. 10.

Junior Landon Spencer, LB, West Genesee: Posted a sack and two tackles in first game vs. Baldwinsville on Sept. 3.
