Turns out you can play ‘Assassin's Creed’ on an Android smartwatch

Just make sure you have your glasses on first.

It’s not just about messaging and heart rates anymore — smartwatches are ready to take on AAA games.

But don’t take our word for it, just watch this video of reviewer Mark B playing Assassin’s Creed Unity on the Kospet Optimus 2 — a newish smartwatch that runs on Android 10.7 rather than Google’s Wear OS.

To get this game running on the watch — which is definitely not designed to play games of this caliber — Mark turned to Google’s cloud service Stadia, which allows him to stream Assassin’s Creed as opposed to actually downloading it.

The experience is obviously a little shaky. Native motions controls on the watch are essentially unusable, so Mark paired with a Bluetooth controller from GameSir as a workaround. Because of some streaming issues with Stadia, the sound also apparently lagged from time-time-time.

And, of course, the screen is also only 400x400 pixels, so make sure you have your glasses nearby...

Quirks aside, the fact that you can even play a title like Assassin’s Creed on a smartwatch at all is a testament to just how far both smartwatches and gaming have come. Maybe there’s a future in which using your smartwatch for big boy games is a real thing. Then again, you might just want to hold onto that Steam Deck preorder for now.
