Ocean Point Column: Condolences to Wagner family and more

It’s hard to believe that we are flying through September; as I write this column Wednesday is the official first day of fall! Despite the calendar we’ve certainly enjoyed summer-like weather this month with spectacular sunny skies and warm temperatures.

Sadly for many of us our time at Ocean Point is quickly coming to an end and several restaurants in the area have already closed for the season. The good news is that the Inn will remain open until the holiday weekend and they are planning their annual turkey dinner to be served on Sunday evening, Oct. 10. Make your reservations soon for this fun filled night and enjoy turkey with all the fixings as we say farewell to Ocean Point neighbors and friends.

Our sincere condolences to Ocean Point resident Barbara Wagner on the sudden loss of her beloved husband John on Aug. 15. While I did not personally know John I understand from his many Ocean Point friends how truly generous and kind John was to all who knew him. John was a very successful entrepreneur and businessman. In his early years he began a lumber company in New Hampshire, moved his operation to Virginia and eventually to Bremerton, Washington where he established Pacific Western Timbers. His company was involved in many high-end marine projects that included the USS Constitution, USS Constellation and large vessels for Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay among others. Ocean Point was so very fortunate to have John as a member of our community; he built the very attractive building where Pinkham’s Seafood is located and generously donated large amounts of granite and a custom built mahogany table for our new Casino.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara, sister Victoria, brother Peter and several nieces and nephews. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family through the Strong-Hancock website, HYPERLINK "http://www.Strong-Hancock.com" www.Strong-Hancock.com.

Lanny Whitehouse would like to remind everyone that 50 additional prints of the beautiful Donald Demers painting are now for sale. Please contact Lanny if you wish to purchase one. Lanny informs me that this will be the last printing of the painting so please don’t wait to order.

If you are packing up to leave within the next few weeks of the season please remember the Food Pantry located at the Congregational Church. Packaged food items are gladly accepted.

Have a great week and enjoy the last days of summer!
