The Detroit Tigers should be more than happy with the adjustments that Tarik Skubal has been making in 2021. His first season in the big leagues may not have produced all the results he was looking for, but he bounced back in 2021.

To be quite honest, the start that Skubal had for the Detroit Tigers in 2021 was a little worrisome, but he was able to right the shop and figure things out. He has started to make the right changes and become a more complete pitcher.

There is still work to be done, but the expectation should be that he can still be an integral part of this future rotation. It seems like he is very well suited to be a solid number two or three receivers in the future rotation.

If the Tigers can have him as a three with Casey Mize and 2021 first-round pick Jackson Jobe in the mix as well, they will have an excellent setup for the future. Especially, if Skubal can continue to get better in the coming years, he will become quite dangerous.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal has a bright future.

I’ll be honest, I was incredibly high on Tarik Skubal and still am. I valued him as being just as good as Casey Mize and even thought he may have been better before they both reached the big leagues.

While this was ludicrous, a boy can dream, right?

Skubal is a phenomenal arm and is still developing, but reality has set in. As mentioned above, he will likely be a two or a three in the Tigers’ future rotation. Even then, there is a lot to like with the direction Skubal is moving.

In 2021, Skubal has logged 29 games, 27 starts, and has an 8-12 record. It was not a pretty start to the season, but now things look better. Skubal has pitched to a 4.25 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 162 punchouts over 142 innings of work.

Being able to rack up some more strikeouts means that he is ironing things out with his repertoire. He’s been able to get more swings and misses and overall be a better arm for the Tigers. Early on in the year, it looked like it was going to take a lot of work to get him to where he’s at now.

However, the Tigers are winding down their 2021 season, and Skubal still looks like he is very well going to finish things on a high note. Its progress for Skubal and progress for the Tigers future.

The hope should be that Skubal can have a good offseason and carry success into 2022 when the season rolls around.
