The Secretary-General met jointly with the President of the European Council, H.E. Mr. Charles Michel, the President of the European Commission, Ms. Ursula Von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, H.E. Mr. Josep Borrell. 
 
They discussed the situation in Afghanistan, as well as climate change in the lead-up to COP26 and beyond. The Secretary-General and EU leadership also discussed the strong cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union, stressing the importance of multilateralism and the follow-up to the Common Agenda. They agreed to continued close cooperation, including through regular high-level meetings.
