ESTHER CECILIA MENO

Esther Cecilia Meno, 86, of Alpena, passed away peacefully and went to be with her husband and Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Esther was born on Aug. 6, 1935, to the late Edward and Genevieve (Wojieczewski) Koss in Alpena.

After getting married and having four children, Esther went on to pursue her teaching degree where she graduated with a bachelors. She taught for over 25 years for Alpena Public Schools with Maple Ridge Elementary, Hinks Elementary, and even a short time at Sunset Elementary.

On July 11, 1953, Esther joined hands in marriage with the love of her life Robert Meno at St. Mary Catholic Church. They went on to raise their family in the Alpena area and enjoyed many activities together such as square dancing, gardening, travelling, and spending time with family. For many years they spent their winters in Texas. They also thoroughly enjoyed partaking in the Amigos Christmas Party for children in Mexico. It has been said that “If it was to be enjoyed, they did it” even if it was in a hot air balloon. Esther also loved being a part of the Alpena Gardening Club, the Birthday Club, the Checker Board Square Dancers, the Cement Mixers, and the Association for Lifelong Learners. She loved to go to the casino, play mahjong, and was an avid “bargain hunter.”

She is survived by her three children, Steven (William Chandler) Meno of Alpena, Sandra Krueger of Alpena, and Patricia (Larry) Crist of Cheboygan, nine grandchildren, Estuardo and Juan Carlos Meno, James (Emily) Krueger, Paul (Anna) Krueger, Melissa Krueger, Douglas (Jessica) Krueger, Anna (Jason) Peterson, Amelia Crist, and Seth Crist, eight great-grandchildren, Riley Grochowski, Annabelle Krueger, Quinten Krueger, Xavier Rouleau, Hunter Krueger, Lincoln Krueger, Drake Peterson, Emma Crist, a brother, Ray (Nancy) Koss, and sisters-in-law, Verna Koss, Joanne Shaw, and Georgetta Nolan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert, a son, James “Jimmy” Meno, a daughter, Malea, two brothers, Harry and Leonard Koss, and son in law Dennis Krueger.

A memorial visitation will take place at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Rayment officiating. In Lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to The Friendship Room. McWilliams Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be registered at mcwilliamsfh.com.
