Hyattsville City Council gave its blessing to a proposed apartment building near the soon-to-be-renamed Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station.
The unanimous vote came during Council’s Sept. 20, 2021, meeting. But Hyattsville’s decision is only advisory. The Prince George’s County Planning Board will vote on the proposal at an upcoming meeting.
The developer, Washington, D.C.,-based firm Perseus TDC, plans a 310,000 square-foot, eight story building with 316 residential units, along with 2,000 square feet of ground floor retail on 2.4 acres of land near the northwestern corner of East-West Highway and America Boulevard. Most of the units will be one-bedroom or studios, with 80 set-aside for two-bedroom units.
The property is currently a parking lot.
The developers previously told Hyattsville City Council they do not plan to offer any affordably-priced units in the building.
In response to comments from the Hyattsville Planning Committee, the developers made aesthetic changes to the plans intended to break up the visual weight of the facade along America Boulevard and East West Highway. The changes include new signage visible from East-West Highway to more-clearly indicate the front of the building, and an increased use of brick.
