Des Moines Man charged with sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl
A Des Moines man is facing charges for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. Police arrested 18-year-old Parieon Davis for third-degree sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child.
Court documents show the crime happened in an apartment at 3728 Hubbell Ave. on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek says Davis is an acquaintance of the girl and knew she was 13 years old.
"He certainly knew this was something he shouldn't be doing, but he went ahead and did it anyway," said Parizek. "I don't know if there is a recipe to predict whether or not somebody is going to be a predator, but they certainly all start somewhere and it's best we address these issues right away if we find out about them."
The victim's mother says her daughter is now dealing with the mental trauma of the sexual assault.
"He peer pressured her into having sex with him," said Dominique Battle. "I just let him know that he stripped her of her childhood. How he took her innocence away from her."
Battle said she wanted to speak publicly to warn other parents.
"The most important thing you can do to your child is talk to them. To let them know it is not her fault," Battle said.
