HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Whitman-Hanson girls volleyball wins five-set thriller over Hanover

Senior captain Lily Welch was a force at the net for the Whitman-Hanson High girls volleyball team on Monday, recording 18 kills, eight solo blocks and two assisted blocks in a 3-2 victory over Hanover.

Fellow senior captain Abby Martin had nine kills and seven solo blocks in the 25-23, 18-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-7 Patriot League win.

Freshman Caroline Gray also starred with 42 assists, four solo blocks, three assisted blocks, four kills and a pair of aces. Senior captain Meg Stone led W-H (3-1, 2-1) with three aces.

Hanover was led by Sarah Long (4 aces, 5 kills, 3 blocks), Allie Calabro (3 aces, 3 kills, 10 digs) and Bella Pineau (4 aces, 5 kills).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Oliver Ames 3, Bridgewater-Raynham 0: Senior Reese Blass (15 service points, 5 kills, 2 blocks) had a strong all-around game for the Tigers in the sweep (25-13, 25-18, 25-13). Hadley Rhodes (15 assists, 7 kills), Shannon Willard (10 assists) and Claire O'Rourke (7 kills) also played well.

Norwell 3, East Bridgewater 0: Carly Ryan had 7 kills and served 16-for-16 with 7 aces to lead the Clippers (4-0, 2-0) to a South Shore League home win. EJ Guarachi (10 digs) and Izzy Woodman (14 for 16 serving with 11 aces) also played well.

Abington 3, Middleboro 0: Madison Perry had 11 aces, and Madison Carini added 6 aces and 9 assists as the Green Wave won, 25-21, 25-12, 25-13. Hannah Tirrell (6 kills, 7 aces) and Kayden Lynch (4 kills, 7 aces) also starred.

Duxbury 3, Quincy 0: In a rematch of last year's Patriot Cup final, won by Quincy, the Green Dragons prevailed, 25-21, 26-24, 25-18. Quincy (3-1) had 19 kills, 43 digs and 4 blocks as a team.

Rockland 3, Randolph 0: Jordan Stec had 14 aces to lead the Bulldogs to a South Shore League win.

Hingham 3, Pembroke 0: Alex Kennedy led the Harborwomen to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-13 Patriot League win.

Blue Hills 3, Upper Cape 1: Sierah Runyan and Sam Rupo played well in the win for the Warriors.

Canton 3, Brockton 0: Kassie Munoz had 3 kills and 15 digs for the Boxers in the 25-7, 25-18, 25-14 non-league loss.

West Bridgewater 3, Southeastern Regional 0: The Wildcats swept the Hawks.

Marshfield 3, Plymouth South 0: The Rams won a Patriot League match.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hingham 2, Whitman-Hanson 2: Ava Maguire scored with less than five minutes remaining to lift the Harborwomen (4-0-1) into a Patriot League road tie. Liv Borgen twice put Whitman-Hanson (3-1-1) ahead, but Emily Gibbons knotted it up at 1-1 before Maguire's late strike. Maguire and Sophie Reale had assists for Hingham. Lauryn Fostello set up Borgen's first goal for W-H, which got 13 saves from freshman goalkeeper Ava Patete.

Cardinal Spellman 2, Archbishop Williams 1: Emma Pero scored with 20 seconds remaining to lift the Cardinals (2-1-1) to a Catholic Central League win. Pero set up Kaci Belmont for Spellman's first goal. Erin O’Donnell assisted on the winner, goalkeeper Jess Pulsifer made 11 saves, and Alyssa Belmont and Claire Varano had strong games. Kailyn St. Ives, of Braintree, had the lone goal for Williams.

Hull 4, Abington 0: Elly Thomas scored two goals (both assisted by Ronni Fleming) and Nina Tiani had a goal and an assist for the Pirates (3-2, 2-1 in South Shore League). Fallon Ryan had one goal while Amelia Donovan recorded her first shutout as Bridget Fleming and Mattie Tuchman also played well.

Silver Lake 3, Marshfield 2: Lauren Dwyer scored twice, including off a free kick with less than five minutes left, and Shea Kelleher added a goal for the visiting Lakers (3-1-1, 3-1 Patriot League).

Oliver Ames 3, Sharon 0: Lauren Sellmayer headed in a pair of corner kicks from Katie Gibson, and Camryn O'Connor added a goal for OA (3-0-1). Halle Kander and Allison Evin played well, and goalkeeper Emily Meyers recorded her first shutout.

Plymouth North 2, Duxbury 0: Carly Schofield scored both goals in the second half for the Blue Eagles (6-0). Goalkeeper Kylee Carafoli posted her fourth shutout of the season, thanks to solid defensive work from Erin Richards, Julianna Andrews and Mackenzie Hohulin.

Scituate 7, Quincy 1: Freshman Grace McGillicuddy had the lone goal for Quincy.

BOYS SOCCER

Plymouth North 3, Duxbury 1: Malachai Val scored twice, and Kevin Riley added a goal for North. Bradley Sorenson and Josh Murray had assists. 

Pembroke 6, North Quincy 0: Andrew Gleason and Declan Crowley both had two goals for the Titans (2-1-1). Wil McManus and Colin Blake also scored while Ethan Sullivan had two assists.

Abington 4, Hull 2: Iury Cassemiro assisted on two Chris Ferriera goals and Trevor Grafton assisted on two Carlos Oliveria goals in the win for the Green Wave.

East Bridgewater 2, Falmouth 0: Goalkeeper Anthony Patete (15 saves) recorded his third consecutive shutout with the help of defenders Spencer Orofino, Aiden Toomey, Jeff Young and Nick Mesheau. Mathias Floeck scored both goals.

Cardinal Spellman 5, Archbishop Williams 1: Sophomore Nathan Monterio (two goals) led the offense for the Cardinals (4-0). Danny Kszystyniak, Alex Kuzmich and Melvin Alves had solo tallies.

Oliver Ames 6, Sharon 1: Clide Neau had a hat trick, and Mathias Taylor, Michael Haikal and John Dobbin also scored for the Tigers (2-1). Taulor and Haikal each had two assists.

Hanover 2, Plymouth South 1: Ben Elliott and Brian Bellerby scored for Hanover (1-3-1, 1-2-1 Patriot League).

Hingham 7, Whitman-Hanson 0: Michael Renna and Luke St Pierre each scored his first varsity goal for Hingham (3-0). Alex Gomes played well for W-H.

Scituate 2, Quincy 0: The Sailors won a Patriot League game.

FIELD HOCKEY

Plymouth North 4, Somerset Berkley 4: The visiting Blue Eagles got goals from Annalise Lopes, Ella Mitchell, Emily Jenkins and Caroline Egan in the non-league tie. Maeve Campbell had two assists, and goalkeeper Lily Johnson made 19 saves.

Walpole 4, Braintree 0: Angelina Barrett made six saves in the loss.

East Bridgewater 1, Carver 0: In the loss, Carver was led by Izzy Mercer, Abby Johnson, Ashleigh Johnson and goalkeeper Ali Perry (22 saves).

Milton Academy 3, Phillips Exeter Academy 2: On Saturday, the Mustangs won a NEPSAC game.

BOYS GOLF

Quincy 134, Brockton 77: Luke LaMonica shot a 1-under-par 34 to earn 28 points as the Presidents won at Furnace Brook Golf Club. Owen Coppola and Dylan Green each shot 3-over 38 for 24 points. For Brockton, senior captain Owen Talbot had a 2-over 37.

Oliver Ames 152, Stoughton 188: Senior Carter Allbritton was low medalist with a 35 as OA (5-1) won at Pine Oaks. David Rodgers (38), Jake Kaplan (39) and Brendan Connolly (40) also played well for the Tigers.

Hanover 270, Silver Lake 285: Senior captain Charlie Cataldo and junior Gage Graybill both carded a 42 to lead Hanover. Owen Cox (46) was Silver Lake's low scorer.

Duxbury 240, Barnstable 267: Martin O'Malley (38), Ryan Sherwood (38), Owen Hamilton (39) and Devin Kenneally (40) led the Dragons (6-1) to the win at Barnstable Fairgrounds (par 36).

Archbishop Williams 168, Bishop Fenwick 140: Quinn Cesarz shot a 2-over-par 35 to lead the Bishops. Andrew Marcotter (37) and Josh Turcotte (39) also chipped in for the win.

Hingham 232, Catholic Memorial 246: Carson Erick shot a 2-under 34 for the Harbormen. 

Mashpee 112, Abington 96: Ryan Tobin shot 42 for the Green Wave in the loss. Hunter Grafton (45) and Kevin Cashman (46) also contributed for Abington.

West Bridgewater 6.5, Old Colony 2.5: The Wildcats won at West Bridgewater Country Club.
