The Liverpool girls volleyball team wanted to make sure its coach, Joe Brainerd, got his 100th career win, so the visiting Warriors went out and swept Corcoran 3-0.
Liverpool, (5-1) won decisively 25-12, 25-9, 25-9. All 16 players contributed to the victory.
We asked coach Brainerd to reflect on reaching this milestone.
Why did you decide to coach girls volleyball?
My daughter Kaylin played at Liverpool and I enjoyed the game so much that I started helping out with her club team. After coaching club for many years, I was offered the JV job at Liverpool. I coached JV for three years and then moved up to varsity.
What do you like most about coaching girls volleyball at Liverpool?
The support system at the district is outstanding. I’ve worked for a few ADs and they have all been wonderful. Our present AD, Ari Liberman, is there for the coaches and kids whenever we need something. Makes coaching a whole lot easier when the system behind you has your back.
Can you tell me about your most memorable moment in coaching?
My most memorable coaching moment would have to be my first varsity win eight years ago, but sharing this win tonight with this group of players is a close second. This is a great group of girls.
