‘Definitely wasn’t easy’: Gymnast Simone Biles on whirlwind week before Gold Over America Tour
The GOAT is heading out on tour. Gymnast Simone Biles is headlining the Gold Over America Tour, which is heading to Sacramento at the end of the month.
Biles withdrew from several events at the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health. She’s been praised for normalizing the mental health challenges many athletes — and the rest of us — face.
She’s spent the last month relaxing and having fun, but this week has been jammed for Biles.
She’s rehearsing for a 35 city tour. She also crossed off a bucket list item and attended the Met Gala wearing an 88-pound dress. And she and three other gymnasts testified in front of a Senate hearing on the sexual abuse they suffered under the care of USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
Biles also accused the FBI of turning a “blind eye” to the gymnasts’ reports of abuse.
“It has been a crazy week. Emotionally, physically draining. But at least we get to end on the highest of highs on the Gold Over America Tour. So I'm excited about that,” Biles told KCRA 3’s Deirdre Fitzpatrick on Friday.
“But it definitely wasn't easy going from the Met Gala to the VMAs to the Senate to here. It's kind of been a whirlwind,” she said.
The Gold Over America Tour kicks off in Tucson on Sept. 21, and the gymnasts tumble into Sacramento for their Golden performance on Sept. 29.
