The Cleveland Browns signed former Alabama tight end Miller Forristall for their practice roster, the NFL team announced on Monday.
An undrafted rookie, Forristall signed with the Tennessee Titans in May and caught a touchdown pass in the team’s preseason opener on Aug. 13. Forristall stayed on Tennessee’s roster until the cut to reach the regular-season roster limit.
The Titans re-signed Forristall for their practice squad, but that lasted only two days before he was released on Sept. 3 during the roster churn in the wake of the reduction to 53 active players by every team.
Players on the practice squad can practice with their teams, but they are not eligible to play in games – with two exceptions.
Each team is allowed to elevate two players from its practice squad to its active roster for every game, although no player can be elevated more than twice during the season. After the game, the elevated players revert to their practice-squad status without having to pass through waivers.
Forristall joins Jordan Franks as tight ends on the Browns’ practice squad. Cleveland’s active roster tight ends are Harrison Bryant, Austin Hooper and David Njoku, and tight ends Stephen Carlson and Connor Davis are on the Browns’ injured reserve.
Forristall spent five seasons with the Alabama football program. In his final two seasons, Forristall caught 38 passes for 420 yards and five touchdowns for the Crimson Tide.
