Burton Bonnette, 82, Mansura

Memorial services for Mr. Burton James Bonnette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville, LA. with Fr. Dan O’Connor officiating.
Mr. Bonnette, 82, of Mansura, LA passed from this life on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA.
He was born in Marksville, LA (Fifth Ward) on November 7, 1938. He graduated from Fifth Ward High School in 1956. He then moved to New Orleans where he lived for 25 years. While in New Orleans, he worked for Dun & Bradstreet, Hibernia National Bank and Amoco Oil.
In 1981, he followed his dream of “living up north” and moved to Rhode Island where he remained for 36 years, despite his dad saying he would be back in six months. While in Rhode Island, he worked as a Direct Care Manager for Looking Upwards, Inc. in Middletown and then as a Resident Manager at Roslyn Mansion in Newport. Burton liked to joke that he was “living like a Rockefeller”.
Burton formed many deep relationships while in Rhode Island all of whom remain his friend to this day. He was part of a group who met religiously every morning at 7 a.m. at the Newport Creamery. They were referred to as “The Apostles” and met for coffee and to solve the world’s problems.
Burton was a great host and tour guide. He loved to take visiting family and friends all through Rhode Island to visit the gilded age mansions on Bellevue Avenue, walk along Cliff Walk, enjoy a lobster dinner on the Atlantic Ocean, or a day trip to Boston and Salem, Massachusetts (home of the Salem Witch Trials), No place was too far or too difficult for him to accommodate his guests.
Burton moved “back home” in November 2017 to be near his family, who were happy to have him back. He formed a new circle of friends becoming part of the Thursday night crowd at the Brown Bag Gourmet and the daily lunch crowd at the Broken Wheel Brewery. Everybody knew him as “Mr. Burton”.
Burton was the family historian and loved to shared stories and memories about the family. His knowledge is a great loss.
Burton was a people person and loved to be with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have him in their life.
Mr. Burton is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Viley Mary Guillot Bonnette and his brother, Dale Bonnette.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers, Elden Bonnette (Linda) of Jasper, GA., Floyd Bonnette (Ronald McClung) of Fifth Ward; sisters, Diana Bonnette (Nathan Bordelon) of Fifth Ward; Jane Kulick (Terry Laborde) of Mansura. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville, LA.
