Anderson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Anderson was called up twice this week for very brief stints in the bullpen. He struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless inning in his lone appearance Monday against the Giants and will head back to the minors as the Padres clear a spot for Friday's starter Vince Velasquez.
