Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng told WWL that some garbage contractors are reporting difficulties collecting trash at residences that are being gutted.

Sheng, speaking with Newell Normand, reported that some residents of the Parish have been mixing their waste bags with their storm and home debris, creating little trash hills outside their homes.

“There is a huge pile of debris in the front, they just put it in one big mound and they throw bags in there as well,” said Sheng. “Now your garbage contractor will not go into that construction and debris hill, mound, or whatever and pull out your bags.”

Don’t mix your rotting waste with your moldy drywall. Sheng said keep them clearly separated.

“You got to separate your materials, regular garbage just like pre-storm goes in bags either in the bin or very close, next to the outside of the bin,” said Sheng who added that you should put your excess bags out next to your bins ASAP because excess collection is not on a regular schedule.

Sheng also reported they've received a lot of reports of pickup issues in the River Ridge area. In some good news for the area, Waste Connections and Ramelli confirm that additional resources are being deployed there Tuesday.
