UPDATE: 16-year-old ID’d in fatal shooting on Joyner Dr. in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Columbus Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on Joyner Drive.

Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms that 16-year-old Kaleb Morning died at a hospital Monday evening.

On September 20, police were dispatched to the 6200 block of Joyner Drive in reference to gunfire. Emergency Medical Services responded and transported him to the Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital where Morning died from his injuries.

Officials with the Muscogee County School District say nearby schools, Georgetown Elementary School, East Columbus Magnet Academy, and Kendrick High School, were all placed on lockdown as a result of the shooting.

Columbus police say no suspects are in custody and homicide detectives are investigating.
