TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Child care center workers in New Jersey will be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or tested regularly, Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday.
Child care centers in the Garden State will have until Nov. 1 to come into compliance with the new mandate, Murphy said in a press release.
Workers that opt not to get vaccinated will be required to get tested at least once or twice per week, he said.
Child care centers will also be required to mandate indoor masking for workers, visitors and children ages two and up effective Sept. 24, the release said.
“We know there are already many child care providers who are doing their utmost to protect the children in their care, their employees, and their communities — and we thank them,” Murphy said in a statement.
“This order ensures that everyone is abiding by the same strong standards to protect those who are not yet eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations, so that we can continue to offer safe, in-person learning environments for children of all ages,” he added.
The new mandate will apply to full-and part-time employees, including teachers, administrators, custodians, food service workers and administrators, the release said.
Individual child care centers will still be allowed to impose stricter COVID-19-related safety requirements on their employees, the release noted.
