Texas DL commit J'Mond Tapp shows off his skills at quarterback on Thursday night

Bethany Hocker-USA TODAY Sports

Four-star defensive lineman J’Mond Tapp gave dual-threat a new meaning on Thursday evening.

The Texas commit accounted for 64 tackles and 5.5 sacks last season for Ascension Catholic High School, and will be heading to Austin next year to suit up and play on the defensive line for the Longhorns.

The Donaldsonville, Louisiana native is truly a do it all type of player. Tapp got the opportunity to show off his skills on the offensive side of the ball on Sept. 16. At quarterback. Yes, you read that right.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound edge rusher also doubled as a wildcat quarterback in his teams 30-8 victory over Hannan. Tapp got the ball in the red zone, and the rest was history.

Texas is hoping that when Tapp eventually makes his way to the Forty Acres, he will become an impact player on a defensive line that has yet to have someone establish themselves as the group’s leader this season.

Tapp offers great athleticism as he is a three-sport athlete, and who knows, maybe there will be a chance for him to power the ball in the end zone every once in a while.
