Undefeated teams atop the Sentinel Super 16 high school football rankings face formidable challenges Friday in Week 5 of the regular season.
No. 1 Sanford Seminole (4-0) plays at Daytona Beach Mainland (1-2), which routed then-No. 8 Lake Minneola last week 35-6 to claim its first win in 2021.
No. 2 Apopka (3-0) is home against No. 4 Edgewater (3-1) and No. 3 Lake Mary (3-0) hosts No. 14 Dr. Phillips (2-2) in other notable matchups.
Lake Minneola dropped five places to No. 13 in the rankings after last week’s loss. Lake Nona scored its second win in a row and moved into the No. 16 spot in place of Olympia (1-2), which lost 40-14 vs. No. 7 Kissimmee Osceola (2-1) last week.
The Sentinel Super 16 rankings are made up of teams from Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Current records and last week’s ranking are in parentheses if different.
Sentinel Super 16
1. Seminole (4-0): Luke Rucker threw three touchdown passes and Darren Lawrence scored twice in a 27-3 win at Flagler Palm Coast (2-1). Next: Friday at Daytona Beach Mainland (1-2).
2. Apopka (3-0): Last week’s game at then-No. 13 Ocoee (3-0) was postponed to Tuesday, Nov. 2. Next: Friday vs. No. 4 Edgewater (3-1).
3. Lake Mary (3-0): The Rams were off last week. Next: Friday vs. No. 14 Dr. Phillips (2-2).
4. Edgewater (3-1): The Eagles scored 35 points in the first quarter while rolling to a 63-0 win at Clermont East Ridge (0-4). Next: Friday at No. 2 Apopka (3-0).
5. Jones (2-2): The Tigers were overwhelmed in Bradenton during a 62-3 loss at national No. 2-ranked IMG Academy (4-0). Next: Friday at Oak Ridge (2-2).
6. West Orange (3-1): Terrell Walden II rushed seven times for 91 yards and 2 TDs and JP Powell-Chestnut forced a fumble as the Warriors won 49-0 win vs. Windermere High (2-2). Next: Friday at No. 12 Ocoee (3-0).
7. Osceola (2-1): Elijah Palermo forced a fumble and finished with six tackles (4 solo) and one sack during a 40-14 win at then-No. 16 Olympia (1-2). Next: Friday at Bradenton Manatee (0-3).
8. (9) Orange City University (3-0): Rubens Joseph rushed for a TD and Lavaughn Coleman turned a short reception into a 57-yard score as the Titans won 41-0 at Lyman (0-4). Next: Friday vs. No. 15 Lake Brantley (2-1).
9. (10) Oviedo (3-0): Friday’s game at DeLand (0-1) was postponed to Oct. 11 due to field conditions at Spec Martin Stadium. Next: Friday at Timber Creek (1-2).
10. (11) Winter Park (3-1): Jamari Shaw rushed 15 times for 80 yards and one touchdown during a 42-8 win vs. Orlando University (1-3). Next: Friday vs. Evans (2-2).
11. (12) Boone (2-1): Casey St. John set a school record for career passing touchdowns (46) while tossing four TDs in 59-21 win vs. Freedom (2-2). Sam Hutsell set the previous record of 45 from 2007 to 2009. Next: Friday vs. East River (1-3).
12. (13) Ocoee (3-0): Last week’s game at No. 2 Apopka (3-0) was washed out. Next: Friday vs. No. 6 West Orange (3-1).
13. (8) Lake Minneola (2-2): Darien Wharton scored the lone TD on a rush as the Hawks were humbled 35-6 in a Class 6A District 6 loss at Daytona Beach Mainland (1-2). Next: Oct. 1 vs. New Smyrna Beach (3-1).
14. Dr. Phillips (2-2): Curtis Argroves II threw three TD passes and Jair Murphy scored three times in a 49-0 win at Celebration (2-1). Next: Friday at No. 3 Lake Mary (3-0).
15. Lake Brantley (3-1): Mason Norwood rushed for 242 yards and 4 TDs and Andrew Harris tallied 12 solo tackles (3 TFL) as the host Patriots held off Evans (2-2) for a 35-27 win. Next: Friday at No. 8 Orange City University (3-0).
16. (NR) Lake Nona (2-2): Zane Durant tallied two sacks and forced a fumble while Madux Borrelli and Isaiah Fulton combined for 19 total tackles during a 37-0 win vs. Cypress Creek (1-3). Next: Friday vs. Wekiva (0-3).
