Colts unsure if QB Carson Wentz will play vs. Titans in Week 3

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich confirmed to the media Monday that quarterback Carson Wentz is dealing with two ankle sprains but is unsure of his status for the Week 3 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Reich told the media that Wentz suffered his left ankle sprain earlier in Sunday’s loss against the Los Angeles Rams. It was healthy enough to continue playing on, but the one he suffered in the fourth quarter kept him from returning.

The Colts are going to use the week to determine Wentz’s status for the first divisional game of the season.

“I can confirm that Carson (Wentz) does have sprains in both ankles,” Reich told reporters Monday. “We’ll have to see as we go here. Obviously, read all the reports here in a few minutes after this call, have a meeting with Chris (Ballard), the doctors and we’ll talk through it together as a staff. I’ll be able to hear more detail. I’ve been with the players most of the morning so I’ll get more details from the docs and we’ll map out a plan for this week.”

Wentz has been solid to begin the season despite being under pressure constantly. He has taken 21 quarterback hits in just the first two games alone and has been running for his life from opposing defensive fronts.

If Wentz can’t go against the Titans in Week 3, the Colts will turn to second-year quarterback Jacob Eason.
