Two crashes at same I-95 site in Kittery: Motorcyclist from Exeter, NH injured

KITTERY, Maine — Consecutive motor vehicle crashes Sunday night on Interstate 95  sent a motorcyclist from Exeter, New Hampshire, to the hospital and shut down roadways.

On Monday, Maine’s Department of Public Safety said that on Sunday evening, a 2002 Sterling dump truck, operated by 61-year-old William Renaud of Berwick, Maine, was turning left into a construction site near the mile 1 southbound marker in town.  Behind the truck, 31-year-old Seabrook, New Hampshire resident Alexandria Paquette was driving southbound in a 2017 Subaru but couldn’t slow her vehicle in time and crashed into the dump truck at 9:12 p.m., officials said.

A few minutes later, at 9:20 p.m., a motorcyclist was traveling southbound in the far left lane but “failed to negotiate the crash,” said department spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle, Daniel Spengler, 46, of Exeter, New Hampshire, collided into Paquette’s vehicle, causing the motorcycle to travel 321 feet south of the crash after impact.

Spengler sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash,” Moss said.

Paquette’s vehicle sustained front end damage and had to be towed. Neither she nor Renaud were injured, authorities said. 

The southbound lanes at the site of the crash were closed down for approximately 10 minutes, Moss added.

Aside from the Maine State Police, the Kittery police and fire departments and Stewart’s Ambulance Service responded to the scene, according to Kittery Chief of Police Robert Richter.
