Cecilia Robles on Crafting the Dance Horror Short Film Tinder Tango [Exclusive Interview]

Tinder Tango with Cecilia Robles

For Cecilia Robles, the short film Tinder Tango was a passion project.

Tinder Tango made its premiere earlier this month at the Dances with Films festival with in-person fanfare as it combines dancing and horror elements in the same film. It took online dating to an entirely different level.

The short film stars Cecilia Robles and Jordi Caballero, who co-wrote the script with Caballero. Robles directed the short.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the short film:

A dreamy Tinder match of two tango aficionados who meet for the first time, and it turns out to be a hell of a date.

The film gathers Robles’ four of her passions that included the supernatural, film noir, tango, and 1940s music. She was influenced by reading masters of magic realism like Carlos Fuentes, Isabel Allende, and Cortazar. Not to mention, she was inspired by Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water to Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta discussed with the director and actress Cecilia Robles on crafting this short film. She talked about how she got professional dancer Jordi Caballero on board her project and dancing toe-to-two with him. Also, she continued on her filmmaking and storytelling that blended this mesmerizing tale of a date gone wrong.

Cecilia Robles was a former employee for a few years for Mexicana de Aviacion and globetrotted around five different continents. She is fluent in five languages and graduated from five universities as she studied film, literature, and acting. As an author, she penned the erotic novel Bienvenidos a Bordo based on her questionable adventures as a flight attendant. Also, she runs two bilingual YouTube channels about holistic health. She has also written, directed, produced, and starred in multiple short films that screened at prestigious film festivals.
