Looking back now at the end of Batwoman Season 2, and with Season 3 on the horizon (it premieres October 13 on The CW) it’s hard to remember a time everyone didn’t already know Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie). Yet as you can plainly see in Decider’s exclusive deleted scene from Batwoman: The Complete Second Season Blu-Ray and DVD collection, which hits stores tomorrow, there was a point when Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) had never encountered the Bat-cowl successor.

In the scene from Season 2’s third episode, “Bat Girl Magic!”, Kane enters The Hold Up, the bar formerly owned by Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), now bartended by Wilder. He’s looking for his daughter Mary Hamilton (Nicole Kang), but she’s — as usual — not available. Possibly because she’s busy managing a secret underground clinic, possibly because she’s assisting Team Batwoman tracking down Victor Zsasz (Alex Morf). Either way, she’s not around.

That’s when Jacob sees the memorial to Kate in the bar, and pauses.

“I’m sorry about what happened to Kate, she’s gonna be missed,” Ryan tentatively says to him.

“Yeah, I never knew she had an effect on so many people until she was gone,” Jacob answers.

“She changed my life,” Ryan continues, before realizing she can’t explain the real way she changed her life, through the Batsuit and her new alliance with Team Batwoman. Instead, she only half lies. “She opened this bar, so people could have a place to be themselves. Maybe I didn’t have to hide. You may think you didn’t know her, but you raised a daughter to be unapologetically who she was. So you did something right.”

Jacob smiles, and leaves, at which point Ryan gets info on Zsasz’s location. And that’s it, but it does provide a rare moment of positive connection between Ryan and Jacob, who at the time was the leader of police force for hire The Crows. That’s also possibly why it was cut out of the show… Ryan was so consistently furious at them throughout most of the season, to have her soften in Episode 3 might not have made a ton of sense. Even if it’s nice to see.

You can watch the rest of the scene above. And make sure to check out Blu-Ray/DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment tomorrow, which comes packed with all 18 Season 2 episodes, more deleted scenes, a gag reel, and two featurettes. It’s also available from digital retailers, and to stream on HBO Max.
