As more and more people stir up speculation about Zach LaVine leaving the Chicago Bulls, I’ll be patiently waiting with a bucket of cold water.
While it is a fact that LaVine is headed toward unrestricted free agency in 2022, there has been little proof the 26-year-old is interested in playing elsewhere. Not only has he told reporters that he wants to be in Chicago, but reports have surfaced that he was plenty involved in the organization’s free agency plans this summer. The front office expressed a clear desire to build around LaVine by speeding up the competitive timeline with a complete roster overhaul. And if the plan is to hand LaVine the money he deserves right when the next offseason hits, he plans to accept it, according to ESPN 1000’s David Kaplan.
He has told people that I know, “hey man, if they want me here, I’m not going anywhere. I’m building this thing. I’m the first guy in the door. I want to be part of this,” Kaplan said on the Kap & J. Hood show Friday morning.
Sure, this may not be a direct quote from LaVine, and we all know things can get a bit twisted when they go through the grapevine. But none of what was said is hard to believe. Again, LaVine has expressed similar sentiments in the past, and he also sounded nothing short of excited to play alongside this revamped roster in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill.

We all know things can change fast in the NBA, especially when the win column runs dry. However, for the time being, LaVine’s sights seem to stay locked on Chicago, and (an existing contract or not) that’s all that matters.
