Garcia was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday.
Garcia was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas at the end of July, and he slashed .278/.333/.407 with two homers, 15 runs and 15 RBI across 29 minor-league games since then. He'll now be cast off the 40-man roster after right-hander Michael Feliz was claimed off waivers.
