Romano was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right index finger sprain, retroactive to Wednesday.

Romano was labeled day-to-day after being hit by a line drive on his right hand during Tuesday's win over Baltimore. It looked like he could be in line to avoid the injured list after X-rays came back negative, but he apparently is experiencing enough discomfort to warrant a move to the IL after all. He'll be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 25 against the Red Sox, but depending on how long he needs to recover, it's possible he doesn't return during the regular season. Reliever Clarke Schmidt was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Romano on the 28-man roster.
