Scaffolding collapse sends construction worker, 44, to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

A 44-year-old carpenter was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after scaffolding at a construction site at 600 Newark Ave. reportedly collapsed on him Monday afternoon, Jersey City Spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

The Jersey City Fire Department, first to arrive at around 1:30 p.m., said it found the worker pinned under the scaffolding, she said. He was reportedly working on the scaffolding when it collapsed, pinning him.

OSHA had been called to the scene to investigate, she said.

He remains in serious but stable condition, Hudson County Spokesman Jim Kennelly said.

The site of the incident, where a new building is being erected, belongs to the county. It is directly across the street from the Hudson County Courthouse and county administration building at 595 Newark Ave. and was once a parking lot.

No other injuries were reported.
